Justice, the French electronic duo of Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay, emerged from the mid-2000s Parisian electro scene as architects of a maximalist sound that married disco's hedonism with rock's visceral punch. Their 2007 debut Cross became a generational touchstone, with tracks like "D.A.N.C.E." and "Genesis" wielding distorted bass lines, cathedral-sized reverb, and a symphonic scope that suggested Daft Punk reimagined as a stadium metal act. The album's compressed, aggressive production reflected an era drunk on excess, yet its pop sensibility transcended dancefloor purism.

Subsequent releases Audio, Video, Disco (2011) and Woman (2016) explored prog-rock textures and gentler dynamics, whilst 2024's Hyperdrama reaffirmed their command of euphoric maximalism. Their visual aesthetic, from the iconic cross logo to elaborate live productions, positioned them as total artists rather than mere producers. Justice captured the zeitgeist of a pre-streaming moment when electronic music could still provoke moral panic and inspire religious devotion in equal measure.
