Mogwai

Mogwai emerged from Glasgow in 1995, forging a post-rock vocabulary that turned dynamics into architecture. Stuart Braithwaite, Dominic Aitchison, Martin Bulloch, and later Barry Burns and Tony Doogan constructed compositions that oscillated between whispered fragility and overwhelming volume, creating what became known as the "quiet-loud-quiet" template. Their 1997 debut Young Team established this blueprint, drawing from Slint's fractured structures and My Bloody Valentine's textural immersion while rejecting traditional verse-chorus conventions.

Across albums like Come On Die Young (1999) and Happy Songs for Happy People (2003), the band refined their approach, incorporating electronics and soundtrack work that culminated in scoring the television series Les Revenants. Their influence permeated indie and alternative circles, offering an instrumental counter-narrative to Britpop's vocal swagger.

By their tenth album Every Country's Sun (2017), Mogwai had become institutional figures in British guitar music, their commitment to dynamic extremity and emotional heft shaping generations of bands seeking transcendence through volume and restraint alike.
