Something / Anything?
Todd Rundgren's most enduring work remains a monument to solitary ambition, with three sides recorded entirely alone in 1971. The virtuoso multi-instrumentalist channelled Philly soul, British Invasion melodicism and studio trickery into pristine pop gems like I Saw the Light and Hello It's Me, both substantial hits that proved craftsmanship needn't compromise commercial appeal.
His one-man-band approach predated the bedroom producer revolution by decades, whilst the fourth side's full-band rock demonstrated versatility beyond the studio wizard stereotype. A blueprint for self-sufficient artistry that still resonates.
