Hurry Up, We're Dreaming.
M83's sixth album unfolds like a dreampop epic filtered through VHS nostalgia and synthesiser maximalism, with Anthony Gonzalez channeling teenage longing across 22 tracks that never overstay their welcome. Producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen helped shape the cinematic sprawl, but it's Midnight City's saxophone hook that became the decade's most ubiquitous earworm, soundtracking everything from car commercials to coming-of-age montages.
The double album format allows Gonzalez to indulge his Smashing Pumpkins fantasies while crafting something genuinely affecting, a rare commercial breakthrough that didn't compromise the project's shoegaze-meets-new-wave grandeur.
