Grace

Released
1994

Jeff Buckley's only complete studio album remains a study in divine restlessness, his four-octave voice swooping through Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and nine other tracks with an intensity that suggested he knew time was short. Produced by Andy Wallace at Bearsville Studios, the record sold poorly in 1994 but achieved sainthood after Buckley drowned three years later.

His interpretation of "Hallelujah" became the definitive version for a generation, overshadowing even Cohen's original and transforming a obscure album track into a cultural touchstone that soundtracked grief itself.
