French Exit
TV Girl's debut arrived with the nonchalance of someone leaving a party without saying goodbye, its sample-heavy arrangements lifting forgotten grooves from dusty records and pairing them with Brad Petering's affectless observations on romantic failure. The lo-fi production shouldn't work this well, layering vintage soul and jazz snippets beneath drum machines and deadpan vocals that treat heartbreak like an anthropological curiosity.
What seemed like a minor indie exercise gradually became a streaming-era phenomenon, with Lovers Rock finding millions of ears years after release, proving sometimes the best exit strategy is simply walking away.
