Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
Recorded in Sydney with the Vanda-Young production team, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap captured AC/DC at their most gleefully unrefined. Bon Scott's larrikin menace turned the title track's crime-for-hire premise into cartoonish hard rock theatre, while Ride On revealed unexpected blues vulnerability beneath the swagger.
Released internationally in 1976 but withheld from America until 1981, the album's crude sonics and schoolyard riffs eventually went six times platinum stateside, proving that AC/DC's deliberately primitive attack needed no sophistication to conquer. Mark Evans' final album with the band remains their purest distillation of Melbourne pub rock attitude.
