Are You Experienced arrived like a Molotov cocktail through the parlour window of 1967 rock, with Hendrix wielding feedback and distortion as compositional tools rather than happy accidents. Recorded in London's studios with Chas Chandler and Eddie Kramer, the album transformed the guitar from rhythm instrument to cosmic transmitter.
Purple Haze and Foxy Lady announced a new vernacular, whilst the backwards-tracking title track suggested the studio itself could bend time. Every overdriven note recalibrated what electric music might accomplish, making everything before it sound suddenly quaint.
